What is an inpatriate?
Types of globally mobile employees who work in the U.S., can fall under different types of inpatriate classification:
Expatriate (Expat):
An employee who works outside their home country for at least six months or more in a 12-month period. An example would be a British citizen working in the U.S.
Inbound Expat or Inpatriate (Inpat):
This includes an employee coming into a foreign country for work for at least six months in a 12-month period. The employee would usually be on a sponsored business visa (i.e. H1B or L1). An example could include a Japanese citizen working in the U.S.
